So Beauteous
Is My Love for Thee
While strolling
along in the park,
at dusk,
an old man called
out to me,
“Young man,
yes, you in all
black,
you wearing the
suit,
come over here
and talk with me for awhile,”
and I did.
We talked of days
passed by,
of love,
and of letters
that would pass in the mail,
between lovers,
his lover.
He said to me,
“Young man what
do you know of love,
with all your
new fangled gadgets,
what do you know
of the separation of lovers,
and anticipation
for the mail?”
I smiled,
a sly all knowing
grin, and replied,
“EVERYTHING, sir.”
The street light
caught a glimpse of my fang.
It was then that
the old man realized,
he was talking
to the Prince of Darkness.
“No need to be
afraid,” I said.
“Sit with me here
awhile now, old man,
as I have sat
with you,
while I tell you
about my love,”
and the fear in
his eyes disappeared,
when he saw the
tenderness upon my face,
as I spoke of
thee.
“So beauteous
is my love,
there is nothing
to compare.
For even the fair
maiden you spoke of earlier,
would surely wither
and pale in his light.
So endless is
my love,
for this most
beauteous Adonis,
if you look up
into the sky at night,
at the moon,
and all the stars,
even that is but
a tiny speck of nothing.
The wind, sir,
carries his name,
and the water
his spirit,
and it washes
away all my sins and imperfections,
transporting me
from darkness,
back into light.
The old man sat
speechless,
and the street
light caught a glimpse of a tear,
rolling down my
cheek,
and the old man
reached out,
wiping it away
with his hand.
“Go,” I said.
“Go now that I
might sit in quiet meditation,
sending my spirit
out to my love.
It will be carried
by wind,
and mail,
and is filled
with love,
understanding,
acceptance,
comfort,
and protection.
For today,
and any day,
that he may need
it.”
